Stardust is one of the most important resources in Pokémon GO. You spend it, usually along with Candy, to power up Pokémon, trade with friends, unlock a second Charged move, and purify Shadow Pokémon.

How to Use Stardust

  • Powering up: each power-up costs 200 to 15,000 Stardust, depending on the Pokémon's level. Taking a Pokémon from Level 1 to Level 50 costs 520,000 Stardust in total. Lucky Pokémon cost 50% less, Shadow Pokémon cost 20% more, and Purified Pokémon cost 10% less.
  • Trading: a standard trade costs 100 Stardust. Special Trades and trades for a Pokémon that's new to either trainer's Pokédex cost much more, with large discounts at higher friendship levels.
  • Second Charged move: unlocking one costs 10,000 to 100,000 Stardust, plus Candy.
  • Purifying Shadow Pokémon: costs 1,000 to 20,000 Stardust, plus Candy, depending on the Pokémon.
  • Adventure Effects: some moves, such as Freeze Shock, cost Stardust and Candy to activate.

How to Get Stardust

Catching Pokémon is the most reliable source, since every catch rewards Stardust. Weather-boosted Pokémon give 1.25× catch Stardust.

  • Catching Pokémon
  • Hatching Eggs
  • Winning raids and Max Battles
  • GO Battle League rewards, including end-of-season rewards
  • Defeating Team GO Rocket members
  • Completing Field Research, Special Research, and Timed Research tasks
  • Feeding Berries to Pokémon defending your team's Gyms

How to Earn More Stardust

Activate a Star Piece to earn 1.5× Stardust for 30 minutes. Star Pieces stack with event bonuses, so they work best during events with extra catch Stardust or before claiming end-of-season GO Battle League rewards.
