Adventure Effects are temporary bonuses in Pokémon GO that certain Pokémon can activate outside of battle. The Pokémon must know a specific move in order to activate the effect, but when activated, it can significantly boost your gameplay.
Adventure Effects charge parts of gameplay for a limited time, for example, increasing how far away you can encounter wild Pokémon, pausing item timers (such as Daily Adventure Incense), attracting Pokémon associated with day or night, or providing bonuses in Raid and Max Battles.
To activate one, open the eligible Pokémon’s summary, find the Adventure Effect, and spend the listed Stardust and Candy. Each move has its own cost, starting duration, and bonus, and the effect can be extended by activating it multiple times. Use the cards below to compare every available Adventure Effect and open its move page for complete details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Adventure Effect is the best?
While all of the Adventure Effects have their place, I find Spacial Rend to be the one I use the most. It’s very helpful during special events where I want to catch a lot of Pokémon such as Spotlight Hours and GO Fest.
Ice Burn and Freeze Shock are great for those hard-to-catch raid bosses like Shadow Kyogre, or to boost the catch rate while auto-catching with the Pokémon GO Plus+.
Roar of Time is great for extended Daily Adventure Incense walks, or for giving your Starpiece and Lucky Egg a little extra time at the end of an event.
What are Adventure Effects in Pokémon GO?
Adventure Effects are temporary bonuses that eligible Pokémon can activate outside of their regular attacks when they know a specific move. Depending on the move, an effect can change wild encounters, pause item timers, alter catching behavior, attract Pokémon associated with day or night, or provide bonuses in Raid and Max Battles.
How do you activate an Adventure Effect?
Open the summary for an eligible Pokémon that knows the required move, find the Adventure Effect section, select Use, and confirm the activation. You must have enough Stardust and the required Pokémon Candy to pay the displayed cost.
How much do Adventure Effects cost?
Each Adventure Effect has its own Stardust and Pokémon Candy cost. The cards above show the activation cost for every available effect, including the specific Candy family required.
How long do Adventure Effects last?
The starting duration depends on the move. The currently available Adventure Effects begin with either 6 or 10 minutes, as shown in the cards above. You can spend additional Stardust and Candy to extend an effect in its starting-duration increments, adding up to two hours at a time and up to a maximum total duration of 24 hours.
Can every Pokémon use an Adventure Effect?
No. Only specific Pokémon and forms can activate an Adventure Effect, and that Pokémon must know the exact move that provides it. Select a card above to open the move page and see the associated Pokémon and complete effect details.
Can you use more than one Adventure Effect at a time?
No. Only one Adventure Effect can be active at a time. You must wait for the active effect to end before activating a different one.
