How regional exclusives work
A region exclusive spawns in the wild or in raids only inside its region. Trainers must be physically located in specific parts of the world to find that Pokémon.
Several species have a different form for each part of the world. Oricorio’s style and each Paldean Tauros breed depend on where you are when you catch them. Vivillon’s pattern depends on where your Postcards come from, and Furfrou’s regional trims depend on where you are when you change its form.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a regional exclusive in Pokémon GO?
A regional exclusive is a Pokémon or form that appears only in certain parts of the world. For example, outside of certain special events, Kangaskhan can only be caught in Australia and Mr. Mime in Europe. Outside its region you won’t find it in the wild, but you can still trade for it.
How can I get regional Pokémon without traveling?
Trade with friends. Trading usually happens in person, so a friend who lives in or visits a region can catch the Pokémon there and trade it to you when you meet up. With the recent addition of Remote Trades, obtaining regionals has become much easier. Reach Forever Friends with Trainers from other parts of the world to trade for regionals without needing to travel.
Events sometimes bring regional Pokémon to new places too, especially in-person GO Fest and GO Tour sites.
Is trading for a regional Pokémon a Special Trade?
Yes, if it isn’t in your Pokédex yet. Special Trades cost more Stardust, and you can only make a limited number each day. Once it’s registered, later trades for the same Pokémon aren’t Special Trades (unless it’s Shiny, has a background, or is a Legendary or Ultra Beast).
How do I get Vivillon patterns from other regions?
Through pinning Postcards. Pin Postcards from a region to your Postcard Book to make progress on that region’s Vivillon Collector medal. That progress rewards encounters with Scatterbug that evolve into Vivillon with the region’s pattern.
You can pin up to three of your own Postcards a day, plus Postcards from friends. Finding trainers in other countries is the fastest way to collect every Vivillon pattern.
You can join the Dittobase Discord to find trainers interested in exchanging gifts from other regions.
How do Furfrou’s regional trims work?
Instead of catching a regional Furfrou, you give one a new trim with Change Form. This means you can catch Furfrou in any region and then travel to different regions around the world and change its trim. Any Furfrou you own can get the La Reine trim, for example, once you’re in France.
Certain special events such as Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos (2026) allow trainers to change a Furfrou’s trim into its regional variants without traveling.
How accurate are the region maps?
They’re approximate. The game doesn’t publish exact borders, so we rely on community reports especially near borders and edges of each area. Small places like Hawaii get a circle marker so they’re easy to spot.
Do regional exclusives ever change?
They can. The developers adjust regions from time to time, and new regional Pokémon are added as more species arrive in the game. We will update this list when they change, but if you find any missing or inaccurate data please submit feedback or email us to let us know.
