Pokémon with Gender Differences
Every Pokémon in Pokémon GO whose male and female forms look different, side-by-side.
Indeedee splits into two builds by gender
In Pokémon GO, male and female Indeedee have different base stats and slightly different charged moves. The male leans offensive with higher Attack and lower bulk. The female trades Attack for HP and Defense, making her tankier (which is useful in GBL).
Female Oinkologne is the GO Battle League pick
Female Oinkologne is preferred over the male in the Great League thanks to higher HP and Defense. The male hits a bit harder, but the female's bulk produces a better stat product in the 1,500 CP cap, which usually translates to stronger matchups. For PvP, hunt for a female.

Most Pokémon do not have notable differences wether male or female. Some, however, have dramatic differences in appearance, and sometimes even stats or available moves.
Visible differences can vary in ways ranging from subtle (a single marking, a color tweak, or a tail shape) to dramatic (Pyroar’s mane, Hippopotas’s color scheme).
Gender does not change IVs or catch rate in Pokémon GO, and for the vast majority of species, it does not change stats. These different base stats can influence GBL performance, for example, female Oinkalogne’s bulk.
Every Pokémon is shown twice, once for each gender, so you can compare the visual differences directly. Toggle the shiny filter to see the shiny variants.
Frequently asked questions
What does gender difference mean in Pokémon GO?
Gender differences are visual variations between the male and female forms of the same Pokémon. Differences range from subtle (a spot, a marking, or a color accent) to dramatic (Pyroar’s mane, Hippopotas and Hippowdon’s color scheme). Gender is assigned when the Pokémon is caught or hatched, and most species in Pokémon GO have an even male/female distribution.
Do male and female Pokémon have different stats in Pokémon GO?
For the vast majority of species, no. Male and female Pokémon share the same base stats, IVs, and movesets. A small handful, notably Indeedee and Oinkologne, are exceptions where the male and female forms function as separate Pokémon with different base stats, giving one gender a clear edge in raids or PvP.
Can you tell a Pokémon’s gender before you catch it?
Not from the overworld encounter. You can see the gender symbol (♂ or ♀) on the summary screen after catching the Pokémon, or in its detail view in your storage. Some Pokémon, like Ditto and most Legendaries, don’t have genders.
How many Pokémon have gender differences in Pokémon GO?
Roughly 100 species have visual differences between their male and female forms (about 10%). Some species are genderless (like most Legendaries, Ditto, and Porygon) or single-gender only (Kangaskhan, Jynx, Miltank, and more).
Do shiny Pokémon show gender differences?
Yes. If a species has gender differences, both the normal and shiny sprites reflect those differences. Toggling the shiny filter on this page swaps every card to its shiny variant so you can compare male and female shinies directly.
