Poké Balls
Premier Balls are the Poké Balls Pokémon GO gives you for bonus catch encounters: the boss after a raid or Max Battle, and the Shadow Pokémon left behind after you defeat Team GO Rocket. They have the same catch bonus as a standard
Poké Ball (1×), and you can't swap in
Great Balls or
Ultra Balls during these encounters. You can still throw a
Master Ball from your bag.
Premier Balls never stay in your item bag. You get a set number for each encounter, and any you don't throw disappear when it ends.
Where Premier Balls Are Used
- Raids, including Mega Raids and Shadow Raids
- Max Battles
- Team GO Rocket battles against Grunts, Leaders (Cliff, Arlo and Sierra) and Giovanni
How to Get More Premier Balls
In Raids
Every raid win gives a base number of Premier Balls, plus bonuses for:
- How much damage you dealt to the boss
- Your team controlling the gym (not counted in Shadow Raids)
- Raiding with a friend: 1 extra for Great Friends, 2 for Ultra Friends, and 4 for Best Friends or Forever Friends
In Max Battles
Max Battles give a set number of Premier Balls, plus 2 extra when you battle in person at the Power Spot.
Against Team GO Rocket
You get more Premier Balls for each of your Pokémon that didn't faint, and for higher ranks of your Hero and Purifier medals.
Tips for Catching With Premier Balls
Feed a
Golden Razz Berry on hard catches like Legendary raid bosses, throw curveballs, and aim for Great or Excellent throws.
Some events replace Premier Balls entirely:
Beast Balls for Ultra Beasts, and
GO Safari Balls for raid and Max Battle catches during GO Wild Area 2025.
