A Meteorite is a special item in Pokémon GO that teaches Rayquaza its signature Flying-type Charged move, Dragon Ascent. Each Meteorite teaches Dragon Ascent to one Rayquaza.

Dragon Ascent can't be learned with a Charged TM or an Elite Charged TM, so a Meteorite is the only way to get it.

Do You Need a Meteorite for Mega Rayquaza?

Yes. Unlike other Pokémon that Mega Evolve, Rayquaza can't become Mega Rayquaza with Mega Energy alone. It must know Dragon Ascent first, and it also needs 400 Rayquaza Mega Energy for its first Mega Evolution.

How to Get Meteorites

Each time you catch Rayquaza from a raid, there's a small chance you'll also get a Meteorite. Select events give them out too, usually as research rewards. Meteorites and Dragon Ascent debuted at Pokémon GO Fest 2023, alongside Mega Rayquaza.

  • Pokémon GO Fest 2023: a free Special Research story, plus an extra Meteorite for ticket holders
  • Mega Rayquaza's return in August 2024: free Timed Research
  • Mega Rayquaza Raid Day in October 2025: free Timed Research, plus an extra Meteorite in the ticketed research
  • Ozone Ascent in July 2026: free and paid Timed Research

How to Use a Meteorite

  • Open your Pokémon storage and select the Rayquaza you want to teach.
  • Use the Meteorite and confirm that Rayquaza should learn Dragon Ascent.
  • Dragon Ascent replaces one of Rayquaza's Charged moves.
