Shadow Shard
A Pokémon GO item in the Other Items category.
Shadow Shard
A mysterious shard that emanates shadow energy. Collect four to combine them into a larger gem using the Shard Refiner!
Category
Other Items
Shadow Shards are items in Pokémon GO that you earn by defeating Team GO Rocket. Collect 4 Shadow Shards and the Shard Refiner combines them automatically into a
Purified Gem.
Purified Gems are used in Shadow Raids. Once a Shadow Raid boss enrages, trainers can use Purified Gems to subdue it, making it easier to defeat.
How to Get Shadow Shards
The more powerful the Team GO Rocket opponent, the more Shadow Shards you earn. Giovanni rewards enough for a full Purified Gem in one battle.
- Defeating a Team GO Rocket Grunt: 1 Shadow Shard
- Defeating a Team GO Rocket Leader (Arlo, Cliff, or Sierra): 3 Shadow Shards
- Defeating Giovanni: 4 Shadow Shards
- Completing Shadow Raids
Note: you can hold up to 10 Purified Gems. Team GO Rocket stops dropping Shadow Shards while you're at the limit, so use some Purified Gems in Shadow Raids to keep earning shards.
To find Leaders, build a
Rocket Radar from 6
Mysterious Components. To find Giovanni, you need a
Super Rocket Radar.
How to Use Shadow Shards
You don't use Shadow Shards directly. Every 4 shards become a Purified Gem, and each trainer can use up to 5 Purified Gems in a single Shadow Raid.
