12 km Egg
A Pokémon GO item in the Eggs category.
A 12 km Egg, also called a Strange Egg, is the longest Egg in Pokémon GO. It hatches after you walk 12 kilometers with it in an Incubator and is red with dark markings, which sets it apart from
2 km,
5 km,
7 km, and
10 km Eggs.
How to Get 12 km Eggs
The only way to get a 12 km Egg is defeating one of the Team GO Rocket Leaders: Arlo, Cliff, or Sierra.
To find a Leader, collect 6
Mysterious Components from Team GO Rocket Grunts and combine them into a
Rocket Radar. The Radar shows a Leader's hideout on the map.
Note: You need an open Egg slot to receive a 12 km Egg. When your 9 regular slots are full, it can go into one of 3 bonus Egg slots.
How to Hatch 12 km Eggs
Open the "Eggs" tab on your Pokémon screen, tap the 12 km Egg, select "Start Incubation," and choose an Incubator.
A
Super Incubator hatches Eggs in two-thirds of the distance, cutting a 12 km Egg to 8 km. That makes 12 km Eggs one of the best uses for Super Incubators. The free
Incubator and the 3-use
Egg Incubator work too.
12 km Egg Hatch Rewards
12 km Eggs give the biggest hatch rewards: 3,200 to 6,400 Stardust and 16 to 32 Candy, depending on the Pokémon, plus XP. Pokémon hatched from Eggs always have IVs of at least 10/10/10.
What Hatches From 12 km Eggs
The 12 km Egg pool changes from time to time, but it keeps a Team GO Rocket theme. It usually holds Dark- and Poison-type Pokémon, or Pokémon that evolve into them.
Sandile,
Vullaby, and
Salandit are examples that have hatched from 12 km Eggs.
For the current 12 km Egg pool, see our Pokémon GO Eggs page.
The Pokémon an Egg can hatch is set when you receive it, not when it hatches.
