A 5 km Egg is an Egg in Pokémon GO that hatches after you walk 5 kilometers with it in an Incubator. It sits in the middle of the Egg distances: 
2 km Eggs hatch faster, while 
7 km, 
10 km, and 
12 km Eggs take longer.
How to Get 5 km Eggs
The most common way to get 5 km Eggs is spinning PokéStops and Gyms. You need an open Egg slot to receive one.
- Spinning PokéStops and Gyms
- Adventure Sync weekly rewards, where walking 25 km in a week can reward a 5 km Egg
Note: You can carry 9 Eggs at a time. Eggs can't be discarded, so the only way to free a slot is to hatch one.
How to Hatch 5 km Eggs
- Tap the Poké Ball menu, then "Pokémon," then the "Eggs" tab.
- Tap the 5 km Egg and select "Start Incubation."
- Choose an Incubator.
- Walk 5 km. Distance counts while the app is open, or through Adventure Sync while it's closed.
The free 
Incubator has unlimited uses. An 
Egg Incubator breaks after 3 uses, and a 
Super Incubator hatches Eggs in two-thirds of the distance, so a 5 km Egg needs about 3.33 km.
5 km Egg Hatch Rewards
Every hatch rewards the Pokémon plus Candy, Stardust, and XP. A 5 km Egg gives 800 to 1,600 Stardust and 10 to 21 Candy, depending on the Pokémon. Trainers who have unlocked Candy XL also receive some. Pokémon hatched from Eggs always have IVs of at least 10/10/10. A 
Star Piece or 
Lucky Egg boosts the Stardust or XP.
What Hatches From 5 km Eggs
The 5 km Egg pool changes with each season and during many events. It usually holds a broad mix of Pokémon, often ones that are hard to find in the wild. Adventure Sync 5 km Eggs have their own pool.
