Rocket Hundo Odds
Perfect-IV chances for every Team GO Rocket source: Grunts, Leaders, Giovanni, Shadow Raids, and the Lucky-trade reroll.
Headline math
Purification gives ×27 better hundo odds
A direct Shadow hundo needs exactly 15/15/15. A purified hundo only needs 13/13/13 or better, because purification adds +2 to every IV. That expands the winning roll from one spread to twenty-seven.
1 / 1,000
Direct hundo from a Leader, Giovanni, or Shadow Raid
IV floor 6/6/6, hundo = exactly 15/15/15
27 / 1,000
Purifies to a hundo from the same sources
Any roll of 13 or higher across all three IVs
1 / 64
Lucky-trade reroll on a Purified Pokémon
Lucky floors all IVs to 12 before re-rolling 12-15
Source odds
Hundo rates by Rocket encounter
The IV floor is the only thing that changes between sources. Every encounter rolls each IV at a flat distribution between its floor and 15, so the math is cleaner than it looks.
Grunt
IV floor 1/1/1
Direct hundo
1 / 3,375
Purifies to a hundo
1 / 125
Weakest floor in the game. Direct hundos are the longest shot here, but the 13/13/13 bridge is still 27× more likely than a clean roll.
Grunt (weather-boosted)
IV floor 4/4/4
Direct hundo
1 / 1,728
Purifies to a hundo
1 / 64
Weather narrows the IV range. A purified hundo is roughly twice as likely as it is from a non-boosted Grunt encounter.
Leader
Arlo, Cliff, or Sierra. IV floor 6/6/6
Direct hundo
1 / 1,000
Purifies to a hundo
27 / 1,000
Same direct rate as Giovanni. Costs more per attempt because each Leader fight burns a Rocket Radar.
Giovanni
Shadow Legendary. IV floor 6/6/6
Direct hundo
1 / 1,000
Purifies to a hundo
27 / 1,000
The only consistent way to land a Shadow Legendary hundo. The Super Rocket Radar is gated behind Special Research.
Shadow Raid
Tier 1 / 3 / 5. IV floor 6/6/6
Direct hundo
1 / 1,000
Purifies to a hundo
27 / 1,000
Weather-boosted catches arrive at level 15 with the same IV floor, so the post-purification hundo lands at level 25.
IV bridge
Shadow → Purify → Lucky
The path matters. Purification raises IVs by a fixed +2. Trading rerolls them. Pick the right step before you commit to the catch you want.
Shadow catch
Direct hundos depend on the source. Grunts are the longest shot. Leaders, Giovanni, and Shadow Raids share the 1/1,000 floor.
Purify check (+2 IVs)
13/13/13 or better becomes 15/15/15. Purification is permanent, removes the Shadow Bonus, and unlocks Mega Evolution and trading.
Lucky trade reroll
Optional. Trading floors IVs to 12/12/12 and re-rolls. A Lucky reroll has a flat 1/64 hundo chance regardless of starting IVs.
Decision guide
Which odds should you actually chase?
Pick the column that matches what you want to keep. The answer changes when you decide whether you care about the Shadow Bonus, the perfect-IV label, or both.
Keep Shadow
1 / 3,375 to 1 / 1,000
Best when the Shadow Bonus matters more than the perfect-IV label. Top raid attackers stay Shadow.
Purify
1 / 125 to 27 / 1,000
Best when you want a hundo for collection, Mega Evolution, or a Lucky-hundo conversion. Purification is permanent.
Lucky trade
1 / 64
Best when the Pokémon is already purified and both trainers accept a fresh reroll. The new IVs replace the old ones.
FAQ
Shadow hundo questions
Why is purification ×27 better for hundo hunting?
A direct hundo needs exactly 15/15/15, one spread out of 1,000. A purified hundo needs 13/13/13 or better, which is 27 spreads (3 winning IV values per stat, cubed).
Should I purify every 13/13/13 Shadow Pokémon?
Not automatically. Top Shadow attackers are stronger as Shadow because of the ×1.2 Attack Bonus. Purify when the perfect-IV label matters more than raid DPS.
Does a Lucky trade preserve a purified hundo?
No. Trading rerolls IVs at the Lucky 12/12/12 floor. Each Lucky trade is a fresh 1/64 hundo chance, but you might lose your existing one in the process.
Are Leader, Giovanni, and Shadow Raid odds really the same?
Yes. They all share the 6/6/6 IV floor, so each spread has 1,000 possibilities and exactly 27 of them satisfy the 13-or-higher purification bridge.
