Frequently asked questions
How much damage boost do Mega Evolutions give in raids?
A Mega or Primal Pokémon on the field provides a 1.3× multiplier to all attacks that share a type with it and a 1.1× multiplier to attacks of every other type. This boost applies to every trainer in the raid lobby, not just the person who Mega Evolved.
Do mega boosts stack with weather boosts?
Yes, they do. Weather boost (+20% damage boost) and the Mega Evolution boost (+30% if same type, else +10%) are separate multipliers, so they stack multiplicatively. Bringing a Mega Pokémon that matches both the raid boss’s weakness and the current weather is the ideal scenario for maximum damage.
What is the difference between the same-type and different-type boost?
If an attack shares a type with the active Mega or Primal Pokémon, it receives the full 1.3× boost (+30%). Attacks that do not share a type still benefit, but only at 1.1× (+10%).
How do Primal Reversions differ from regular Mega Evolutions in terms of boosts?
Mechanically, the boost values are identical: 1.3× for matching types and 1.1× for everything else. The key advantage of Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and Mega Rayquaza is their expanded type coverage, which means they apply the stronger 1.3× boost to a broader range of attack types than most standard Mega Evolutions.
How do I get Mega or Primal energy?
The best way to get energy is by completing Mega or Primal raids, but there are other options. Walking with a previously Mega Evolved Pokémon will reward energy, but it has to have been Mega Evolved at least once already. Rarely, Spotlight Hours will give a small amount of Mega Energy when catching the featured Pokémon during the event. Field Research tasks can also reward small amounts of Mega Energy.
How much Mega Energy does it cost to Mega Evolve for the first time?
This depends on the Pokémon. Most cost 100, 200, or 300 energy, but some powerful Legendaries like Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and Mega Rayquaza require 400. Weaker Pokémon typically cost less, while stronger Legendaries cost more.
When was Mega Evolution first introduced?
Mega Evolution was first introduced in Pokémon GO on August 27, 2020. Mega Evolution was first introduced to the Pokémon universe as a whole in October 2013 with the release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
Do I need to use the Mega Pokémon myself to get the damage boost?
No. As long as any trainer in the lobby has a Mega or Primal Pokémon on the field, every other trainer benefits from the damage boost automatically. You do not need to be the one who Mega Evolved, and the boost applies regardless of what Pokémon the other trainers are using.
