Pokkén Tournament DX
An arena fighter where Pokémon battles move in real time.
Overview
Pokkén Tournament DX adapts Pokémon battles into a real-time fighting game. Instead of turn-based commands, players control a fighter directly, shifting between field movement and close-range duels while managing support calls and a Synergy Gauge.
The DX version brought the Wii U and arcade fighter to Nintendo Switch with additional fighters, local and online modes, and a Ferrum League structure for solo play.
Key features
Real-time Pokémon fighting
Take direct control of a roster of fighter Pokémon in arena battles.
Support Pokémon
Call partner Pokémon during a match to extend pressure or cover weaknesses.
Burst Attacks
Build Synergy, enter Burst mode, and unleash a cinematic finisher.
What kind of Pokémon game is it?
Pokkén Tournament DX sits outside the main-series gym-and-Pokédex structure. Its identity comes from real-time Pokémon fighting, making it useful to catalog alongside the main games while keeping its expectations separate.
Why it matters in the wider series
The game shows how flexible Pokémon can be as a franchise format. It uses familiar creatures, types, characters, or collection goals, but reframes them around a different daily loop than catching, training, and clearing a regional league.
