Why Use This Exploit?

This exploit allows you to farm an unlimited number of Nuggets in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Since each Nugget sells for 5,000 Poké Dollars, it is the fastest way to build up a large amount of money early in the game.

Having plenty of Poké Dollars gives you access to essential items throughout your adventure, such as Repels, Potions, and other supplies. More importantly, it allows you to purchase large quantities of Game Corner Coins, which can be exchanged for valuable rewards, including rare Pokémon such as Dratini, Pinsir, Scyther, and Porygon, as well as powerful Technical Machines (TMs) like Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Flamethrower, and Shadow Ball.

How the Exploit Works

To set up the exploit, travel to Nugget Bridge, located just north of Cerulean City.

Defeat the first five trainers on the bridge, but do not defeat the sixth trainer at the end. This trainer is a Team Rocket Grunt who will offer you a Nugget before challenging you to a battle.

The key to the exploit is that if you lose the battle, you can challenge him again. Each time you initiate the encounter, he will give you another Nugget before the battle begins. By repeatedly losing to him, you can collect as many Nuggets as you want.

Important: Once you defeat the Team Rocket Grunt, the exploit is permanently unavailable, and you will no longer be able to receive additional Nuggets from him.

Preparation

1. Spend Your Money

Before starting the exploit, visit a Poké Mart and spend all of your current Poké Dollars on useful items. Good choices include:

  • Repels
  • Super Potions
  • Poké Balls
  • Status-healing items

This is recommended because every time you lose a battle, you forfeit some money as prize money to the opposing trainer. Spending your cash beforehand prevents those hard-earned funds from being lost.

2. Prepare Your Party

Next, visit a Pokémon Center and deposit all of your strong Pokémon into the PC.

Leave only one weak Pokémon in your party. Since the goal is to lose the battle as quickly as possible, weaker Pokémon are ideal. Good choices include:

These Pokémon are typically knocked out in a single hit by the Grunt's Ekans.

3. Battle the Grunt

Once your party is ready, return to Nugget Bridge and speak to the Grunt.

He will engage you in conversation, give you a Nugget, and immediately challenge you to battle.

When the battle begins, simply choose any attack. Your under-leveled Pokémon should be defeated quickly.

Repeating the Battle

After losing, your character will white out and be returned to the nearest Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy will heal your Pokémon automatically.

From there:

  • Walk back to Nugget Bridge.
  • Challenge the Team Rocket Grunt again.
  • Receive another Nugget.
  • Lose the battle.
  • Repeat the process as many times as desired.

Each cycle earns you another Nugget, allowing you to accumulate a large fortune before continuing the story. When you are satisfied with the number of Nuggets you have collected, return to the Grunt and defeat him to progress normally.
