          Rainbow sword and rusty metal!

Exciting News for Pokémon HOME Users in February 2025 as the final two mystery gifts in the series of Pokédex completion rewards are now unlocked!

The shiny versions of the Mythical Water and Fighting-Type Pokémon Keldeo, the Sword of Justice, and Meltan, the Steel-Type Mythical Hex Nut Pokémon, are now available as mystery gifts as part of the Pokédex completion rewards.

For Keldeo, this marks the long-awaited debut of its shiny version, which has never been available before. Players can also transfer Keldeo to a compatible Pokémon game on the Nintendo Switch, where it can learn its signature move SpecialSecret Sword. This move allows Keldeo to change into its Resolute Form, which has a separate Pokédex entry that can also be filled with the shiny version now.

As for Meltan, while it was previously available as a shiny Pokémon during rare special events in Pokémon GO, it is now permanently accessible in its shiny form. Unfortunately there is no current method of evolving Meltan into Melmetal outside of Pokémon Go.

Requirements for Unlocking Mystery Gifts for Pokédex Completion

To receive mystery gifts in general, you need to have the Pokémon HOME mobile app installed and your HOME account linked to a Nintendo Profile.

To claim the latest mystery gifts, you must complete the respective Pokédexes:

          • Kanto Pokédex in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Let’s Go, Eevee! (LGPE) for Shiny Meltan
          • Galar Pokédex in Pokémon Sword / Shield (SwSh), including the DLC Dexes of The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra for Shiny Keldeo

Only Pokémon originating from the respective game count toward the completion of these Pokédexes.

          Get shiny Meltan!

The Kanto Pokédex in LGPE contains 150 entries. You don’t need to register the Mythical Pokémon Mew, which can be obtained as a gift through the Pokéball Plus. It’s also not necessary to get the Alolan Forms of certain Pokémon.

The biggest challenge in completing this Pokédex is obtaining the version-exclusive Pokémon. The Global Trade System (GTS) in Pokémon HOME can be helpful for filling these gaps.

Unfortunately, playing Pokémon GO won’t assist in this case. While you can transfer Pokémon from GO to the Let’s Go games, they won’t count toward the Game Pokédex, as their origin will still be Pokémon GO. Additionally, the breeding mechanic is not available in these games.

Once you complete the Game Dex challenge, a crown will appear next to the number of registered Pokémon, and you’ll receive a message from Grand Oak congratulating you. As a reward, you can now claim your Shiny Meltan by opening the main menu, going to the mystery gift section and heading there to the gift box.

The gifted Meltan will always have HOME as its Original Trainer with the ID 250212. It comes in a Cherish Ball at level 50 and has an adamant nature. The info will also say, that Meltan was met in the Kanto region in a fateful encounter, giving it the origin mark for LGPE.

          Get shiny Keldeo!

The Galar Pokédex contains 400 Pokémon. In addition, Pokémon Sword and Shield feature a two-part DLC, each with its own Pokédex. The Pokédexes for The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra each add another 210 entries.

If a Pokémon appears in both the main game’s Pokédex and a DLC region’s Pokédex, it only needs to be registered once to unlock both entries. Additionally, the Mythical Pokémon Zarude is not required for completion.

Like most games in the franchise, Pokémon Sword and Shield have version-exclusive Pokémon. However, for non-legendary Pokémon, you can bring in a foreign Pokémon to breed with Ditto at the daycare, allowing the resulting egg to hatch a Pokémon of the same species but with an origin in SwSh.

For legendary Pokémon, this isn’t possible, so using the Global Trade System (GTS) to trade for missing legendaries can help. However, obtaining legendaries like Calyrex or Kubfu, which are exclusive to the DLC, can be more challenging.
