Mark your calendars — Research Day: Oranguru and Passimian is right around the corner, taking place Sunday, September 22 from 2 - 3 p.m. local time. If you’re a fan of these primate Pokémon, this is an event you won’t want to miss. Let’s break down what you can expect and why you might go bananas for this exciting new Research Day.

During this event, you can spin PokéStops to receive event-themed Field Research tasks rewarding encounters with Oranguru and Passimian, both of which will be available in their Shiny forms. This marks the official Shiny debut for Passimian, so if you’re aiming to complete your Shiny Dex, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of these Field Research tasks!

        Wild Encounters

Get ready for monkey mayhem, as during the event the following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild.
Note: * denotes Pokémon which can appear as Shiny.

        • Mankey*
        • Aipom*
        • Slakoth*
        • Chimchar*
        • Grookey*

Want to go even more wild during this Research Day event? Head over to the Shop tab to pick up your Paid Timed Research ticket for $2 in U.S. currency or the equivalent pricing tier in your area. This ticket will grant you event-exclusive Timed Research tasks rewarding you even more encounters with Oranguru and Passimian. Note that these encounters will carry the same Shiny odds as encounters achieved via Field Research tasks.

What do you think — do you plan to get up to some monkey business during this new Research Day? If so, we send you all of the Shiny luck!
