Mega Rayquaza Special Raid Event

Due to an issue affecting trainers during the initial Mega Rayquaza in Elite Raids event, a makeup day will take place on August 3rd, 2024.

Event Schedule

This event will have three, one-hour periods where Mega Rayquaza will be appearing in all gyms.

  • Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. local time
  • Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. local time
  • Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. local time

Event Bonus

The Remote Raid Pass limit will increase to 20 from Friday, August 2, at 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, August 3, 2024, to 8:00 p.m. PDT.

This means some trainers in certain timezones (such as the US) will be able to do 40 total Mega Rayquaza remote raids — 20 on Friday night, and another 20 on Saturday.

Free Timed Research

Free Timed Research will be available to Trainers during the event! Complete the research tasks to earn a Meteorite.

Unlike other Mega-Evolving Pokémon, Rayquaza can’t Mega Evolve with Mega Energy alone. Trainers hoping to Mega Evolve their Rayquaza will need to teach it the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent first!

Dragon Ascent can only be learned by using Meteorites.

Changes to The Initial Makeup Day

On July 29th, 2024 the offiical @PokemonGOApp Twitter account announced an update to the Mega Rayquaza Makeup day event. Instead of Elite Raids, as was originally planned, the event would be a Special Global Raid Event. This means that Mega Rayquaza will be in more raids at more gyms and that trainers from around the globe can remote raid this highly saught after Pokémon.

Previous Announcement

This is an update to the initial announcement from @NianticHelp back on June 11th 2024. This initial tweet promised another Elite Raid event at 1pm and 6pm.
