Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Mega Pokémon in Pokémon GO right now?
Mega Rayquaza leads the overall chart thanks to a party-wide same-type damage boost. Outside its matchup, the top of the table rotates by type. Scroll the rankings on this page to find the best pick for a specific raid.
Which Mega should I evolve first?
Evolve the Mega that covers a type hole on your account and that you actually own counters for. A Mega is only useful while it is active, so prioritize one you will raid with often: typically Rayquaza, Mewtwo Y, Garchomp, Tyranitar, or Gengar depending on your roster.
Are Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre better than Megas?
For Ground and Water raids, yes. Primals apply the same party-wide damage boost mechanic as Megas and sit at or above Mega-tier eDPS in their type, and they also set weather that further lifts same-type allied damage.
How long does Mega Evolution last?
A Mega stays active for 8 hours after any use following the first Mega Evolution of that species. The Mega Energy cost to re-evolve drops as you raise Mega Level, and higher Mega Levels also shorten the cooldown between evolutions.
Does Mega Evolution boost the whole raid team?
Yes. While a Mega is active, allied Pokémon get +30% damage on moves sharing the Mega's type and +10% on all other moves. Boosts from multiple Megas of the same type do not stack; only the highest applies.
Can you Mega Evolve legendary Pokémon?
Only those with released Mega forms. That currently includes Mega Rayquaza, Mega Mewtwo X and Y, and Mega Latios and Latias. Other legendaries cannot Mega Evolve regardless of Mega Energy.
How much damage does a same-type Mega add?
A same-type Mega adds 30% to allied moves matching its type and 10% to every other move for the duration of the Mega window. The boost applies to the whole party, including remote raiders, and does not stack with other Megas of the same type.
Is Mega Rayquaza still the best Mega?
In raw same-type boosted DPS, yes. Mega Rayquaza with Dragon Ascent tops the Dragon charts and often the overall list. Primal Groudon closes the gap in Ground raids, and Mega Mewtwo Y still wins Psychic.

If you are weighing a Mega against its Shadow counterpart, the best Shadow Pokémon ranking runs the same eDPS math on Shadow attackers.
