The Best Way to Shiny Hunt in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!

Introduction
Released in 2018, Pokémon: Let's Go,
Pikachu! and Let's Go,
Eevee! took the world by storm with their unusual mechanics and nostalgia for the Kanto region, where it all began. Every single one of the original 151 Pokémon is available, and most of them can be shiny hunted. The best way to shiny hunt most of these Pokémon is through Catch Combos.
What Are Catch Combos?
Catch Combos are a mechanic introduced in Pokémon: Let’s Go,
Pikachu! and Let’s Go,
Eevee! A Catch Combo starts when you catch the same species of Pokémon consecutively. Catch Combo shiny hunting is one of the best shiny hunting methods in the series, with the shiny odds reaching 1/273.
A Catch Combo breaks when you do any of these:
- Catch a different Pokémon
- Close the game
- Let any Pokémon run away from an encounter
What Is the Catch Combo Method?
The Catch Combo shiny method requires a Catch Combo of 31 or more. Catch Combos increase shiny odds for the first Pokémon that spawns after catching a Pokémon in a chain of the same species.
For example, if you have a
Pidgey Catch Combo of 32, the next
Pidgey that spawns has increased shiny odds. To keep those odds, keep the Catch Combo going by catching only that species.
What Are Lures and How Do They Increase Shiny Odds?
Lures are items in Pokémon: Let's Go,
Pikachu! and Let's Go,
Eevee! There are three kinds: Lure, Super Lure, and Max Lure. Lures cause more Pokémon to spawn, raise the chance of rarer Pokémon and Rare Spawns appearing, and increase the shiny odds of all wild spawns. Lures give an extra roll to the shiny odds, making shiny Pokémon easier to find.
Shiny Odds
| Conditions | Catch Combo of 1–10 | Catch Combo of 11–20 | Catch Combo of 21–30 | Catch Combo of 31+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
No Lure, no Shiny Charm | 1/4096 | 1/1024 | 1/512 | 1/342 |
Lure, no Shiny Charm | 1/2048 | 1/820 | 1/456 | 1/316 |

Lure and Shiny Charm | 1/1024 | 1/586 | 1/373 | 1/273 |
Rare Spawns
Rare Spawns are Pokémon with a very low encounter rate, which goes up with a Catch Combo. There are 11 Rare Spawns, and their encounter odds are 1/200 without a Lure or Catch Combo.
The three Legendary birds (
Moltres,
Zapdos, and
Articuno) are also Rare Spawns, but their odds are much lower than the other 11: 1/2,000 without a Lure or Catch Combo.
The Rare Spawn odds are:
| Catch Combo | Rare Spawn Odds |
|---|---|
0–1 | 0.5% |
2–5 | 0.75% |
6–10 | 1% |
11+ | 50% |

How to Shiny Hunt Rare Spawns
Shiny hunting Rare Spawns is different from the Catch Combo method, as it is more difficult to encounter Rare Spawns. The best way to shiny hunt these Rare Spawns is to get a Catch Combo of any Pokémon (for example, a Catch Combo of 11
Pidgey).
A Catch Combo of 11 or more works well for Rare Spawns, because it raises their encounter rate to 50%. Go to the area where the Rare Spawn you want appears and stand near a loading zone. A loading zone is any transition that clears every Pokémon on screen and moves you to a different area.
You can trigger a loading zone by going up or down a ladder, entering a building, going into a town or city, or going through a gate. Going in and out of a loading zone lets you encounter Rare Spawns quickly.
Tips & Tricks
- To avoid running out of Poké Balls, sell your stat Candies when money runs low. You get them for catching Pokémon, and each one sells for 10 Poké Dollars.
- Every Pokémon has three encounter animations: an attacking animation, a moving animation, and a running animation. If the running animation is shown, then you need to run away from the Pokémon you are catching; otherwise, it will run and break the Catch Combo. Before you decide on using the Catch Combo method to shiny hunt a Pokémon, look up what its running animation looks like.
- When shiny hunting Rare Spawns, wait a moment after you come back through the loading zone, because you can miss a shiny Pokémon that spawns while you are passing through.
