Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves Announced for Nintendo Switch 2

Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves have been announced!
The next main-series Pokémon games were revealed during the Pokémon Presents on February 27, 2026, as part of Pokémon Day and the series’ 30th anniversary. Both games are developed by GAME FREAK and will release worldwide at the same time in 2027, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
An Open World of Islands and Ocean
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will be an open world, presumably allowing players to freely explore and forge your own path.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are also open world Pokémon games, however they don’t have level scaling and there are some soft restrictions if you try to enter a high-level zone with an under-leveled team.
The official trailer and game site show off vibrant islands and beautiful realistic water that make me excited to explore.
Meet the First Partner Pokémon
Trainers will choose one of three new first partner Pokémon:
- Browt, the Grass-type Bean Chick Pokémon
- Pombon, the Fire-type Puppy Pokémon
- Gecqua, the Water-type Water Gecko Pokémon
Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu
The trailer also introduced Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, two Pikachu with brand-new looks. How they fit into the adventure hasn’t been revealed yet.
Version Differences
Your character’s outfit changes depending on whether you play Pokémon Winds or Pokémon Waves. No other version differences have been announced yet.
Language Support
Starting with Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, Brazilian Portuguese will be an officially supported language.
Release Date
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will launch worldwide in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2. An exact release date hasn’t been announced yet.
