English original GBC and Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console editions
Native Pokémon, encounters and battles apply to both editions. The Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console release (26 January 2018) supports wireless linking, Time Capsule trades with compatible VC games, and Mystery Gift. Original cartridges and VC copies cannot connect to each other. Stadium 2, Pocket Pikachu 2 and Game Boy Printer connectivity require original hardware. The GS Ball event is restored on VC after entering the Hall of Fame; it is unavailable through normal play in original English GBC copies. Japanese Mobile features and distributions are outside this English scope.
