The Best Way to Shiny Hunt in Pokémon Let's GO Pikachu and Let's GO Eevee

Introduction
Released in 2018, Pokémon Let's GO Pikachu and
Eevee took the world by storm with their unusual mechanics and nostalgia for the Kanto region, where it all began. Every single one of the original 151 Pokémon is available, with most of them able to be shiny hunted. The best way to shiny hunt a majority of these Pokémon is through Catch Combos.
What are Catch Combos?
Catch Combos are a new feature introduced in Pokémon Let’s GO Pikachu and Let’s GO
Eevee. A Catch Combo starts when you catch the same species of Pokémon consecutively. Catch Combo shiny hunting is one of the best shiny hunting methods in the series, with the shiny odds reaching 1/273.
Catch combos can be broken in multiple ways, including:
- Catching a different Pokémon
- Fully closing down the game
- When any Pokémon runs away in the encounter screen
What is The Catch Combo Method?
The Catch Combo shiny method includes having a Catch Combo of 31 and over. Catch Combos increase shiny odds for the first Pokémon that spawns after catching a Pokémon in a chain of the same species.
For example, if you have a Catch Combo of Pidgey at 32, the next
Pidgey that spawns will have the increased shiny odds. To keep these increased shiny odds, you keep the Catch Combo going by continuously catching the same Pokémon as in the Catch Combo.
What are Lures and How Do They Increase Shiny Odds?
Lures are usable items in Pokémon Let's GO Pikachu and Let's GO
Eevee. There are 3 different types of lures: Lure, Super Lure, and Max Lure. Lures cause more Pokémon to spawn, increase the chance of Pokémon with lower odds to appear, increase the chances of Rare Spawns to appear, and increase the shiny odds of all wild spawns. Lures give an extra roll to the shiny odds, making shiny Pokémon easier to find.
Shiny Odds

Rare Spawns
“Rare Spawns” are Pokémon that have a very low encounter rate, which increases with a Catch Combo. There are 11 Pokémon that are rare spawns, and their encounter odds are 1/200 without any lure or Catch Combo.
The 3 Legendary Birds: Moltres,
Zapdos, and
Articuno, are also Rare Spawns, but their encounter odds are much lower than the basic 11 Rare Spawns, with the encounter odds being 1/2000 without any lure or Catch Combo.
The “Rare Spawn” odds are:
Catch Combo | Rare Spawn Odds |
---|---|
0 - 1 | 0.5% |
2 - 5 | 0.75% |
6 - 10 | 1% |

How to Shiny Hunt Rare Spawns?
Shiny hunting Rare Spawns is different from the Catch Combo method, as it is more difficult to encounter Rare Spawns. The best way to shiny hunt these Rare Spawns is to get a Catch Combo of any Pokémon (For example, a Catch Combo of 11 Pidgey).
A Catch Combo of 11+ is very good for shiny hunting these Rare Spawns, as it increases their encounter rate to 50%. You go to the area of the Rare Spawn you want to shiny hunt and stand near a loading zone. A loading zone is something that gets rid of every current Pokémon spawn and moves you to a different area.
Some of these loading zones can be used by: Going up/down a ladder, entering a building, going into a town/city, or going through a gate. By going in and out of a loading zone, you can quickly encounter rare spawns.
Tips & Tricks
- To make sure you don’t run out of Pokéballs quickly, make sure to sell EV candies once you run low. These EV candies are obtained when catching Pokémon, and they give 10 Pokédollars each.
- Every Pokémon has 3 encounter animations: An attacking animation, a moving animation, and a running animation. If the running animation is shown, then you need to run away from the Pokémon you are catching; otherwise, it will run and break the Catch Combo. Before you decide on using the Catch Combo method to shiny hunt a Pokémon, make sure to look up what its running animation is.
- When shiny hunting Rare Spawns, make sure to wait a bit after entering back into the loading zone, as you may sometimes miss shiny Pokémon if it spawns while you are in the process of entering a loading zone.
